Speaker : Sue Dill

Duration : 90 minutes

Webplay Recording Date : 5-30-2012

Webinar Overview:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) have updated intravascular catheter infection prevention guidelines in April of 2011. CMS updated the Hospital Conditions of Participation manual May 20, 2011 requiring that evidence based standards be used in nursing education required on IVs, IV medication, blood and blood products. Every hospital should be aware of these new evidence based guidelines and should implement them into their policies and procedures, training and education.

The timing of these guidelines came at the right time as hospitals need to start reporting central line infections to CMS or they risk losing 2 percent of their Medicare payments.
